Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain, along with a group of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) employees, resumed their demonstration in front of Nagar Bhaban today, calling for Ishraque’s immediate formal appointment as mayor.

The protest, which had paused for 48 hours, has once again brought civic operations to a halt, creating significant disruptions in services for residents.

The main gates of Nagar Bhaban remain locked, while demonstrators under the banner "Dhakabashi" continue to march through the compound. After each procession, they gather at the building entrance, chanting slogans in support of Ishraque.

One protester declared that they would not leave until Ishraque Hossain, whom they refer to as the "people’s mayor," is officially handed over mayoral duties.

Since May 15, all 28 essential public services—including waste collection, mosquito control, and the issuance of birth and death certificates—have been suspended due to the ongoing protest.

Officials from the local government ministry have received a High Court directive allowing Ishraque to assume the role of DSCC mayor.

However, a formal date for the oath-taking has not yet been announced. Sources indicate the ceremony could take place within the week if remaining formalities are completed.

Demonstrations began on May 14, with supporters demanding that Ishraque be sworn in and allowed to assume his mayoral responsibilities without delay.
